This past weekend I started getting into Christmas decorating task mode. I was determined to deck the halls and spread some cheer. Well, let’s just say I got a pretty good start. The Christmas tree is still up in the attic and may or may not make an appearance this year. I spent some time layering the mantel with sprigs of green, pine-cones, white candles and sparkling silver mercury Christmas trees. Checking on my progress I thought it needed a pop of color, a touch of red maybe? So, I came up with the idea to cover the candles with a wrap. It was an easy craft project using a tartan plaid scarf.
I gathered all of my supplies, a plaid scarf, candle holders and a cute button for embellishment.
Love the wool scarf but I can’t wear it any longer, too itchy, time to repurpose it.
I measured the heights and the circumference of the glass candle holder and cut the wool fabric accordingly, then stitched it together. It shows a little fringe from the scarf…bonus!
I slipped the wrap over the glass and searched my sewing kit for a cute button or small belt buckle to give it a more finished look.
The candle wrap seems to add a bit of cheer and coziness to the mantel decor. I’m still tweaking the mantel, so please check back later for the reveal. I may have to remove the mirror to get a full view of the fireplace and mantel, or find the perfect angle to take a good picture. It’s an ongoing challenge for sure. How is your decorating going?
